Ethically, it is committed to the continuous improvement of its practices, following the Code of Conduct for Publications from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), available at: https://publicationethics.org/

Evaluation, approval, and scheduling depend on compliance with ethical standards (see: Ethical Standards for Publications of Universidad Pedagógica Nacional), the formal criteria for article submission (see: Instructions for Authors and Authors' Ethical Responsibilities), and dossier proposals (see: Instructions for Dossier Proposal Submission).

The journal is committed to maintaining high-quality standards in its publications and takes all necessary measures to prevent ethical breaches in its articles. Authors submitting to this journal attest that their work is original, unpublished, and not under evaluation by any other journal. Additionally, authors confirm that the work is their own and not copied, either in part or in full, from other works, and that any real or potential conflict of interest has been disclosed. The journal is committed to blind peer review by expert reviewers and preventing any conflicts of interest between editors and reviewers.

Pedagogía y Saberes is committed to a double-blind review process that guarantees anonymity for both the author and the reviewer in the evaluation and approval of the article for publication. This ensures the prevention of any conflicts of interest between the editor, authors, and reviewers. Issues arising from these matters are reported by the editor to the Editorial/Scientific Committee, and, if necessary, to the relevant university authorities to ensure the resolution of the situation without leaving doubts regarding the procedures.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting articles for publication must consider the following criteria:

  • Report truthful personal and research or bibliographic data in the OJS system, in the metadata and the body of the article. Articles that report developments or results of research must mention the name of the research, the funding institution(s), and, in the case of a master's or doctoral thesis, the program and university the author(s) are affiliated with, as well as the research group to which they belong. All necessary details and references to cite and reference the research and its sources must be provided. Fraudulent or inappropriate claims constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

  • Submit completely original works for evaluation. If the article is a translation or a work by another author, it must be marked as such, and the author’s and the original publisher’s authorization letter must be attached. The use of another author's work in direct or indirect quotations must be adequately referenced according to current academic standards. Otherwise, the article may be considered plagiarism. The journal will verify this manually or through specialized software at any stage of the editorial process, and once identified by the editor, Editorial/Scientific Committee, or reviewers, the issue will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

  • Cite all publications used in the construction of the reported work.

  • Report the authorship of all individuals who contributed to the article's production and no more than them as authors. An author is someone who made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the text and participated in the research supporting it. Individuals not included as authors but who contributed to the research must be acknowledged in the first footnote.

  • Submit the article exclusively for the journal’s editorial process. Do not submit similar research or reflection articles with identical results to more than one journal or to the same journal under different titles or slight modifications. In no case should an individual author or group of authors have more than one article in the evaluation or publication process with the journal. Such behavior is considered unethical and unacceptable.

  • Inform the editor of the following aspects in the publication form (see: Publication Form and Ethical Declaration for Publication) submitted through the OJS system alongside the article:

    • The publications the author has made in the past two years.

    • Any real or potential conflict of interest related to the work, or any associated partial benefits that may influence the evaluation.

    • All funding sources for the presented work.

  • Any inaccuracies in identifying authors or sources of significant funding in the published work, which should have been reported by the author, must be immediately corrected in a signed letter to the Editorial/Scientific Committee and adjusted in the online version.

  • To comply with ethical verification, the author must submit the publication authorization form with the ethical declaration and the transfer of copyright to the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional.

Ethical Standards for Publications of Universidad Pedagógica Nacional

  • Independence of Criteria: Manuscript evaluation will be based solely on the content, regardless of the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, citizenship, or political ideology.

  • Confidentiality: Neither the editor nor any member of the editorial team may reveal information regarding the editorial process of each issue, including authors' names or personal data, reviewers, and editorial/scientific team members involved in the process.

  • Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished article content cannot be used for personal research by the editor or editorial committee without the express consent of the author.

  • Responsibilities of Evaluators

    • Conflicts of Interest: Any evaluator who does not feel qualified to review a manuscript or cannot do so within the required time must notify the editor promptly. Evaluators should not assess manuscripts where there are conflicts of interest or where the research is in competition with their own or their institution’s work. Articles with editors or invited editors as authors will be handled by an independent editor. Evaluators must also refrain from reviewing articles where there are academic or personal interests due to affinity or rivalry with authors or institutions. In such cases, the evaluator should declare their recusal in a letter to the editor.

    • Confidentiality: Any manuscript submitted for review must be treated as confidential and not shown or discussed with others, unless authorized by the editor.

    • Objectivity Standards: Reviews must be objective. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Evaluators should express their opinions with clear reasoning about the manuscripts they evaluate.

    Responsibilities of Authors

    • Truthfulness: Information and data in the submitted manuscripts must be truthful. Any investigative work should contain sufficient details and references to ensure the research and sources can be cited and referenced properly.

    • Originality: Authors should submit entirely original works for evaluation. If they use others’ work, it must be properly referenced and cited. Otherwise, the article may be considered plagiarism.

    • Self-Plagiarism: Authors should not present previously published work as new.

    • Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications: An author should not submit manuscripts presenting essentially the same research to more than one journal.

    • Authorship: Authors should be limited to those who made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research.

    • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect the evaluation of their manuscripts. All funding sources must be revealed.

    • Errors in Published Work: If an author identifies a significant inaccuracy in their published work, they must immediately notify the editor or the Editorial/Scientific Committee and cooperate in correcting it.
