Authorship Statement (COPE)

The journal adopts the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the authorship of scientific manuscripts. Accordingly, all individuals listed as authors must have made significant academic contributions to the development of the research and the manuscript, participated in the approval of the final version, and accepted responsibility for the published content.

The journal recommends the use of the CRediT taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) (https://credit.niso.org/) to identify and make transparent the specific contributions of each author. During the submission process, authors are requested to clearly describe the participation of each member of the research team in the development of the work and the manuscript.

The inclusion of individuals who have not substantially participated in the research, as well as the omission of relevant contributors, constitutes misconduct in scientific publishing. The journal may request additional clarification regarding authorship whenever deemed necessary. The corresponding author shall be responsible for ensuring that all authors are aware of and approve the submitted version and the final version accepted for publication.

Ethical standards for UPN periodicals

Independence of criteria. The evaluation of the manuscripts for each issue will be made exclusively on the basis of the content of the manuscripts, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, citizenship or the authors’ political ideology.

Confidentiality. Neither the editor nor any member of the editorial team of any journal may disclose information about the editing process of each issue, including authors, evaluators, and editorial staff.

Conflicts of Interest. The content of the unpublished manuscripts may not be used in the personal investigations of the editor or the editorial committee of the journal, without the express consent of the author.

Duties of the evaluators

Conflicts of Interest. Any selected evaluator who feels disqualified to review a manuscript, or cannot do so within the time required, must notify the publisher. Evaluators may not evaluate any manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest, or manuscripts presenting results of rival investigations, with the authors as well as with the institutions. The articles in whose authors are included the editor and / or the invited editor will be managed in their entirety by an independent editor.

Confidentiality. Any manuscript submitted for evaluation should be handled as a confidential document, and should not be disclosed or discussed with others, except as authorized by the publisher.

Objectivity Standards. Evaluations should be conducted objectively. The author’s personal criticism is inappropriate. Evaluators should clearly express their views on the manuscripts under evaluation with supporting arguments.

Duties of the authors

Veracity. The information and data reported in the original documents submitted must be truthful. Any investigative work should contain enough details and references to allow the work to be replicated by others.

Originality. Authors must submit for evaluation fully original works and will properly reference and cite the work of others, lest the document be considered as plagiarized.

Self-plagiarism. Authors should not submit their own, previously published work as if it were recent.

Multiple, redundant or concurrent publications. Authors should not submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal.

Authorship of the work. Authorship of the work should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study.

Conflict of interests. All authors must disclose in their manuscripts any conflict of interest that may influence its evaluation. All sources of funding should be disclosed.

Errors in published works. When an author discovers a significant inaccuracy in his or her published work, it is his/her obligation to immediately notify the editor or the editorial and to cooperate with them in its correction.

Plagiarism Screening and Use of Artificial Intelligence

Articles submitted to the journal are reviewed using Turnitin, a tool for detecting similarity and non-original content. This review is part of the editorial actions aimed at promoting transparency, manuscript originality, and good practices in scientific publishing.

The journal will review similarity reports to identify possible cases of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate fragmentation of results, improper use of sources, incorrect citation, unattributed paraphrasing, or excessive reuse of previously published texts. Based on this review, the editorial team may request clarifications from the authors, require adjustments to the manuscript, or reject the submission when it considers that the similarity percentage or the nature of the matches compromises the originality, integrity, or transparency of the work.

Regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools, the journal requires authors to explicitly declare whether they used AI-assisted technologies during the preparation of the manuscript. If so, they must indicate which tool was used, for what purpose, and at what stage of the work it was employed. The use of AI does not replace the intellectual, ethical, and scientific responsibility of the authors, who must ensure the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of all content submitted. In all cases, the Editorial Committee may request clarifications and may even reject the article when it considers that the extent of AI use compromises the originality of the manuscript.

Model Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

The authors declare that they [did/did not] use artificial intelligence tools during the preparation of the manuscript. If applicable, [name of the tool] was used to [briefly describe the purpose: writing support, translation, grammar review, analysis, organization of information, or another use]. The authors critically reviewed the generated outputs and assume full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.

Open Access Policy

The journal does not apply article processing charges (APCs) or any fees associated with the submission, evaluation, editing, or publication of manuscripts. There are also no costs for accessing, reading, or downloading the published content.

In accordance with the principles of open science, the journal promotes access to and circulation of scientific knowledge without economic or technical barriers. All the contents of Nodos y Nudos are hosted in the Institutional Repository of Universidad Pedagógica Nacional: repository.pedagogica.edu.co. This archiving process is carried out after the final publication of the article.

The journal implements actions aimed at ensuring the long-term preservation, availability, and retrieval of its digital content. To this end, in addition to the institutional repository, it uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN), a service associated with the Open Journal Systems (OJS) ecosystem, which enables the distributed preservation of published content.

These actions contribute to maintaining permanent access to articles and strengthening the journal’s digital preservation practices.

Metadata Policy

The journal recognizes the importance of metadata as fundamental elements for the visibility, retrieval, indexing, interoperability, and circulation of scientific knowledge. Accordingly, it works continuously to maintain complete, standardized, up-to-date, and consistent metadata throughout all editorial and publication processes.

The journal’s editorial management is carried out through Open Journal Systems (OJS), a platform that facilitates academic interoperability through the OAI-PMH protocol (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), enabling the harvesting and circulation of information in national and international scientific information systems.

The journal uses persistent identifiers and internationally recognized standards, including DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for scientific articles, ORCID for author identification, ROR for institutional identification, and other elements associated with the standardization and interoperability of academic and scientific information.

Additionally, the journal promotes the use of bilingual metadata, open licenses, interoperable formats such as XML-JATS, and continuous updating processes for editorial information. Metadata facilitate the indexing, harvesting, digital preservation, and circulation of published content across different scientific information systems, platforms, and services.

The journal interoperates with and strengthens its information exchange processes through services and systems such as Crossref, DOAJ, OpenAlex, and other mechanisms for indexing, visibility, and academic discovery, with the aim of supporting the retrieval and traceability of published scientific content.

Finally, the journal recognizes the importance of digital preservation and technical standardization processes for information, including strategies associated with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN), in order to contribute to the stability, availability, and long-term preservation of academic content. Within this framework, the journal maintains an ongoing commitment to the quality and rigor of metadata across all editorial and publication processes.
