Abstract

This paper performs an exercise of interpretation of Umberto Eco's novel The mysterious flame of Queen Loana (2005). lt demonstrates the way the main character reconstructs his personal identity from the readings done throughout his childhood, closely related to the war environment of Italy during the Second World War. lt also demonstrates how the reading of beloved texts leads the main character to read himself and to read a particular time, which is possible, in turn, since the recovery of his memory. At the end, some considerations, which come out from the attempt to bring together the text world with the reader world, are outlined.
